The TOLIFE project was featured at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Congress 2026, held in Barcelona from 5 to 9 September, through a presentation by Dr Laura Delgado Ortiz, researcher at ISGlobal.
During the session “Inspiring youth to engage in healthy behaviors and the future of their lung health”, Dr Delgado Ortiz presented the co-creation process behind the TOLIFE comic “The Game of Life”, coordinated by Raul Toran.
The comic was developed through a participatory process involving people with COPD and young students. People living with COPD first identified the key messages to communicate, while students from two schools in Barcelona transformed these messages into scripts. A professional illustrator then brought their stories to life through the final comic.
Presented to an audience of around 80–100 researchers, clinicians, pulmonologists and patient advocacy representatives, the initiative showcased TOLIFE as an example of research developed together with patients and young people, helping raise awareness of lung health among younger generations.
The Game of Life is available in English, Spanish, Catalan and Italian, extending the reach of its messages to audiences across Europe.
